Holiday Spirit and Lights

Holiday lights and winter are here,Jesse Tam. The past 22 years, Garden d' Lights is a favorite holiday place to share dazzling creatures - blue heron, golden swan on a radiant pond, dragonflies, spider and the web, fish ladder, sunflowers, lilies, poinsettia tress, grape arbor, scarecrow and more...The air is filed with holiday music as you stroll along the path and see the beautiful lights.
The display and program is in partnership with the Bellevue Parks and Community Services, while the event is produced by Bellevue Botanical Garden Society. The project is a year round effort with volunteers making the light displays and setting up the garden. New items are added each year even if you've seen it before. It is part of the holiday tradition for many people.
The event runs from Nov. 25 through Dec. 31, open nightly 4:30 - 9 Pm, light goes out at 9:30 pm. The park is located at 12001 Main Street, Bellevue.  Admission $5, children 10 and under free. Tickets can be purchased online at gardendlights.org.  On-site parking $5 (cash only) per vehicle, free with disabled parking permit.  Free parking at Wilburton Hill Park.
Warm up with a hot chocolate and see the interest items on display in the gift shop while you are there.  Bring a small lantern or flashlight if you have small children to help with walking along the dark path. The display is a fun for all age groups.

Community New Vision Opens

New vision clinic opens in the International District to provide additional options in health services. Jesse Tam, another grand opening to serve immigrates and others in our local community. The clinic provides neighborhood health for Asian Pacific Islander and immigrant communities in Washington state. ICHS serves primary care in seven clinics located in Seattle, Shoreline and Bellevue and patients speaking over 50 different languages.

A ribbon cutting was held on November 7 in the Chinatown International District to celebrate the new vision clinic.  Eye care is an important part of maintaining overall health care with many requiring glasses for children and elder adults.

"The 1,200 square foot clinic, located in a storefront across the plaza from the ICHS medical dental building in International District Village Square, was built with support from a $350,000 grant from the City of Seattle. Design began in October 2016, and the clinic was completed last month.  The clinic includes two exam rooms and is expected to handle approximately 900 visits by its second year."  http://www.iexaminer.org/2017/11/international-community-health-services-opens-new-vision-clinic/

Winter Driving with Early Snowfall

Early snowfall, Jesse Tam, the week was filled with turn back the clock and a surprise early snow in the northwest. It snowed on November 2, early for the year and created delays at SeaTac International airport with cancelled flights due to fog and de-icing of planes. Seattle had a flurry of the white flakes and Bellevue/greater eastside residences received several inches. Those living in higher elevations had slick road conditions on hilly neighborhoods.

The skiers are hoping to open the ski slopes soon with such an early snow. It's time to get those snow scrapers out of the garage and off the shelves as we plan ahead for the winter months. Time to collect some items to leave in your truck in case of stormy weather or traffic delays.

Here are a few handy items to carry:
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Windshield scraper
  • Comfortable boots or walking shoes
  • Extra coat or blanket, hat, gloves, scarf
  • Small portable shovel
  • Snacks and/or water
  • Emergency kit
  • Safety flare
  • Booster cable
  • Fire extinguisher
Be prepare for the changes during the winter months with possible icy road conditions when the temperature dips below freezing. Remember to check the treads on those tires so it will be safe on the road when it rains or snows. Stay connected Jesse  https://jesset28.blogspot.com/

Summer Heat and Outdoor Activities

Summer Heat and outdoor activities, Jesse Tam. The haze and recent lingering smoke from British Columbia and local fires made the hot days difficult for many of us to spend time outdoors. the summer sun and heat with no measurable rain at SeaTac marks 51 days of dry weather since 1951 Our week will continue with 80 degrees ahead and the dry stretch will continue.
  • Stay cool at home by closing drapes and shades during the morning or afternoon sun.  This can reduce heat entering your home.
  •  Use fans and cook with small appliances instead of using the oven to keep house cooler.
  •  Check air conditioning to make sure it is working properly or installed if you are using window or room air condition.
  • Limit your exercise and activities outdoors.
  • Make sure pets have plenty of water and shade to stay cool.
  •   Plan walks with pets during early morning or early evening when pavements are not hot, paws are sensitive to the hot surface.

Be careful under the hot sun and remember to take small breaks. Jesse  https://jessetam.com/  Watch for weather alerts and warnings.

Are you making plans to view the summer eclipse? There's still time, Jesse Tam, Seattle area friends will viewing from the northwest. We are fortunate to have the Pacific Science Center show casing this exciting phenomenon. There are many of who are watching from the open fields in Oregon or even from the skies on a plane with Alaska Airlines flight.

Here's the information on how you can register and view the event in Seattle at the Pacific Science Center  https://www.pacificsciencecenter.org/eclipse/

"This summer, witness a solar eclipse, a truly astounding celestial event, at the epicenter of science in Seattle: Pacific Science Center.

A total solar eclipse is a unique phenomenon that hasn’t happened in the contiguous United States since February 26, 1979. During a total solar eclipse, the Sun is entirely blocked by the Moon, and in totality, night appears in the middle of the day and temperatures drop.
On August 21, Pacific Science Center will open at 8:30 a.m.* to prepare guests for the eclipse that will begin at 9:08 a.m. The maximum of the eclipse will be at 10:20 a.m. and it will end at 11:38 a.m.
Along with solar telescopes and safe viewing glasses, the Science Center will also have hands-on activities, demonstrations, and conversations about solar eclipses, the Sun and our sky.
Activities include:
  • In the event of clouds (always possible in Seattle!) view the eclipse as it’s live streamed from other clear weather locations.
  • View the eclipse through safe viewing glasses.
  • Talk with our education staff about eclipses and see hands-on demonstrations about how eclipses occur.
Activities and viewing of the total solar eclipse is included with admission and FREE for Pacific Science Center Members. Want to see the eclipse in its totality?"
