Seattle Exhibit Terracotta Warriors

Xian's Terracotta Warriors coming to Seattle, Jesse Tam.  The upcoming exhibit of the Terracotta Warriors from April 8 - Sept. 4, 2017 at Pacific Science Center, Terracotta Warriors: Guards for Eternity. Tickets for the event are available online for members, groups and visitors.

Xian Terracotta Army, Jesse
The collection of sculptures called the Terracotta Army is now believed to be spread over three different pits. It is primarily made up of soldier figures and is estimated to include more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots, 670 horses and additional figures like acrobats, government officials and musicians.
  • Why did Emperor Qin Shi Huang require such figures to guard his tomb?
  • How did sculptors in 200 BCE create these impressively realistic sculptures?
  • Why did it take so long for us to discover this massive group of artifacts?
  • How were the caverns engineered to prevent collapse?
  • What tools made this remarkable achievement possible?
You can find the answers to these questions and more at the Pacific Science Center’s upcoming exhibit Terracotta Warriors: Guards for Eternity. Created in partnership with The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, the exhibit will begin a limited five-month run in April of 2017. The exhibit will delve into the science, history and architecture of this fascinating collection and will feature several Terracotta Warriors on display.

Winter Sun Best Destinations - Jesse Tam

Winter sun destinations, Jesse Tam. Rainy Seattle and Bellevue with darkest and gray skies will make us long for places to escape. Winter is right around the corner, and with that comes cold weather, snow and wind chills.   If this doesn’t sound like something you want to be around for, you’re in luck because there are plenty of destinations you can escape to with warm weather.

Here are some places for that winter time fun and escape:

Florida Keys is a coral cay of tropical islands. They form about 120 miles of the southernmost portion of the country between the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. With warm temperatures and sunny weather year-round, they Keys are the perfect destination.  Some things for the adventurous include skydiving, scuba diving or snorkeling.

Maui during December is 82 degrees. Maui is known for its watching spectacular and incredible surf.  Enjoy the best of both worlds; a laid back atmosphere, but also extreme adventure. Relax on the beach and lush green landscapes of island life.

California is the perfect season to visit during winter. There are fewer tourists compared to the summer months, so you don’t have to worry about the crowds and long lines.  Visit the beautiful beaches, wine tasting in Napa Valley, visit San Francisco and it's iconic bridge, Disneyland or explore the most famous Yosemite National Park.

Preparing for Hurricane Storm

The weather forecast for Hurricane Matthew will hit millions of Americans in the Southeast this week. It's time to prepare for the worst with the impact of the Category 3 storm and change travel plans before the storm hits the region.  Here are some tips to survive a hurricane storm.

1)  Have enough food and water for each person in your household for three days. Canned items, non-perishable food, manual can openers and a grill or propane to heat up food.

2)   Prepare an emergency supplies bag in case you need to evacuate quickly. Important papers, documents, medical prescriptions, eyeglasses, electronic devices or hard drives. Grab and go bag and clothing.

3)  Check and make sure you flashlights and extra batteries available.  Stock up on tarps and garbage bags if water damages roof and to keep items dry.

4)  Have a portable weather radio or generator in case power goes out. It could take days for repair of power. Keep generators outdoors and a safe distance away from the house so fumes do not become a hazard.
5)   ATM and gas pumps will not work if there are outages, fill up the cars and have small amount of cash on hand in case of emergency purchases.

Stay alert, heel the advice of the broadcast updates in your area.  Thanks for reading  Jesse https://jesset28.blogspot.com/

Spring In the Northwest

Spring in the Northwest with Jesse Tam  This year was a record high temperature for the Northwest region with early arrival of spring flowers, cherry blossoms and tulips in the fields. It's true, we had a few days of 80 degree temperatures breaking another record for 2016.  We know spring is around the corner when the annual Boat Show was held in late January-February and the opening season for baseball in April with the Mariners season.

Another favorite place suggested to view the city is from West Seattle along Harbor Avenue and Alki beach. Enjoy a stroll along the beach or bike on the path with your family or pets. Traffic can get heavy and difficult to find parking when the weather is warm.

The beach provides places for picnics and barbecues.
Drop in for a snack at the local eateries for ice cream, coffee, sandwiches and great dining.

Who can resist the beautiful flower at the market.  Visiting Pike Place Market is always a favor for locals and out of town visitors. It brightens the soul watching the people, smell of fresh produce, flowers, crafts, music and more.  Each day is unique with events throughout the year.

Plan ahead during the summer months and reserve your accommodation's early visiting Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.  The cruise ship industry to Alaska brings additional tourist to the region with hotels filling to capacity.  jessetam  read more blogs and update

Discovering Kunming and Yunnan Providence

The world is full of adventure and stories after 30 plus years of travel and business trips.  Sharing another recent visit to Asia with Jesse Tam to the southwest providence of Yunnan. Our friends have visited Seattle many times during the summer/winter holidays and asked that I reciprocate with going to see Kunming.  It took many years before I decided to depart Seattle International airport and venture to this city with a different dialect and rich culture.

Kunming  City of Eternal Spring - Jesse Tam
Kunming is an important trade and port gateway for China from Vietnam and southeast Asia.  It provides oil pipelines and natural resources to help with China's economical needs and suppliers. As one of China's famous ancient and cultural cities, it's history can be traced backed to 30,000 years. The mild climate with year round flowers and blossoms gives the city the nickname "City of Eternal Spring".
Traditional food
Serving some of the local traditional food on large bamboo leaves with display on table top.

Interesting experience trying out different food and culture in southwestern China. The mild climate produces plenty of vegetables and varieties of fruit
A very interesting meal where eating is with the hands and no utensils. Enjoying new friendship and food with people in Kunming.  A city with many dialects, backgrounds and years of culture. Travel opens doors to understanding others and making new friendship.  Gathering with Jesse and learning to speak another Chinese dialect.

Success and Positive Attitude

The things that we tend to associate happiness and success tend to correlate with having money or wealth.  This is the time we start making new resolutions, but also need to reflect on how grateful for the basic things in each of our lives.  Jesse Tam sharing stories and ideas -

What are you grateful for?  The time we have with our families, a warm places to call our home or just waking up each day without being in pain.  A healthy person and positive attitude goes a long way.  Follow your instincts...what makes us think we'd be happy with more?

Just a thought, reflections, business ventures, meetings, education, goals...
